New Concept Shoot: PF Chang’s London

PF Changs has arrived in London! We recently worked with our long time friends at PF Chang’s Global to create a new photography aesthetic for the launch. The first location in Europe, the London location photography needed to represent co-founder Philip Chiang’s love of art, music and food. Shot in studio, the images provide both a look into the menu and its creation with a very hands on story telling approach. The results are beautiful with thoughtful attention to detail. Thank you to the PFC team, all the best in London!

A very cool fact – the location’s past includes a jazz club where the Beatles famously gave The Rolling Stones one of their hit singles, I Wanna Be Your Man.

Case Study: Bar Louie

Bar Louie is a great client case study for us – we’ve partner with many concepts and hospitality groups over the years and our projects with the BL team have always been awesome. We’ve had a great working relationship that includes shooting a variety of both their still photography and motion needs: from their entire menu, to on-going LTO food menu items, cinemagraphs, lifestyle and architecture. The BL work is featured in a variety of advertising spaces to include web, social and outdoor. We couldn’t ask for much more in a client with tapping us so much in collaborating with the Louie rock and roll vibe. Check out this cross section of work (and their revamped website!). If you haven’t been to a Bar Louie, make sure to… they have close to 100 locations across the nation and make some pretty sweat cocktails and food.

Thanks so much to the BL team, EAT. DRINK. BE HAPPY and cheers!

Product and Food Photography for Packaging

With being a dedicated commercial food and motion studio not only do we shoot food for hospitality groups and ad agencies, we work with many corporate clients direct for their private label packaging needs. The Megaware Pro packaging shoot included a multi-day production in studio to capture 15+ shots of styled food and food prep items as well as individual product shots. All images were used for front, side and back packaging placement. A big thank you to the client and food stylists for a project well done.

Patrick Darby Photography – A Unique and Powerful Brand Solution

Having fostered and developed partnerships with dozens of national restaurant brands throughout the years, we wanted to assemble a retrospective of imagery samples from some of these projects and take the opportunity to publish the words from one of our closest partners (RUI) describing their experiences with Patrick Darby Photography.

Patrick and his team are dedicated to nothing less than the highest quality collateral deliverable…

-Niall Bloom, Creative Project Director of RUI

– Patrick Darby / Principal, Director of Photography

…We have had the privilege of working with Patrick Darby/Tonic photography on multiple branding projects over the last 2 years. Restaurant’s Unlimited is a growing company with 48 restaurants nationally with more than 20 distinct brands. One of the unique challenges of our organization is our great variety of concepts, restaurant design and menu content. Patrick and his team have been instrumental in defining, highlighting and communicating the distinct nature of some of the most important brands in our organization. They’ve done this by leveraging several of their key strengths:

Talent & Creativity: Tonic is able to deliver the highest quality photography representing unique brand voices while adding their signature look and feel. Patrick & his team are able to troubleshoot and problem solve in real time while always maintaining their high quality standards.

Commitment & Work ethic: RUI has worked with multiple photography teams. The focus, consistency and work ethic of Patrick and his team is unmatched.

Efficiency: Patrick’s team is small but mighty. Each of the individual team members are able to wear multiple hats and support projects with everything from planning & organizing, load in/load out, set up, lighting, food styling, assistant photography and everything in between.

Flexibility: The Tonic team is able to make adjustments on the fly to suit changing conditions: Late breaking marketing promotions, physical constraints, shot list adjustments and all the other things that can come up during an all-day photo shoot.

Staff, Management and ongoing support: The team are committed to ensuring the best outcome for everyone by leveraging open & honest communication and feedback. Tonic team have not only supported our organization’s intent but have helped us further define, refine and capitalize on our brand identities”

Ten Days, Nine Restaurants

It’s been a very active summer for the studio with lots of travel and exciting new opportunities. That said, perhaps the most noteworthy of these opportunities was our time with Restaurants Unlimited (RUI) in Seattle and Portland. In Seattle, we shot architecture, lifestyle, and food for Palomino, Palisade, Cutters, Stanford’s, Scott’s and Stanley’s and in Portland, we produced the same for Henry’s, Portland City Grill and RUI’s newest restaurant, Prime Rib and Chocolate Cake. It goes without saying, it was a substantial undertaking to create such a large amount of content across a wide range of subject matter and over a compressed period of time. The experience allowed my team and me to fully immerse ourselves in the RUI culture and work with some great and talented chefs, creative directors, and management staff. This project stands out as one that is particularly well suited for Patrick Darby Photography as we have the expertise and resources to tackle this type of project in both its scale and diversity. I’m very proud of my team and what we were able to accomplish and appreciative of RUI for allowing us to partner with them on this great project. Seattle and Portland are such wonderful culturally rich cities and we’ll always look back on our time there with fond memories. Kincaid’s in Phoenix is our next undertaking scheduled with RUI and we’ll let you know about that one shortly after it occurs. We’re looking forward to it!

Cheers

Patrick Darby Photography shoots Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles

We were really excited to get the call this Spring to work with Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles. Not familiar with Lo-Lo’s, now’s your chance to catch-up. The concept has a long and rich history here in Phoenix which started with Mrs White’s Golden Rule Cafe in the 1960’s. Mrs White’s (now in her 90’s) can still be found in her single downtown Phoenix iconic location from time to time, but has left the heavy lifting to her grandson Larry White from which has developed Lo-Lo’s and what has now become a soul food revolution here in Phoenix. With Lo’Lo’s being only a few locations deep in Arizona, they have just announced national franchise opportunities. Our muli-day photography shoot included capturing their entire menu, exterior architecturals and company portraits – all in preparation for a new menu design, website launch and announcement to being national franchising.

All the images look just as rich and delish as the food – wishing the best of luck to the Lo-Lo’s crew and thank you!

Patrick Darby shoots Harvest Snaps at tonic photo studios

This May we received a call from our friends at Catapult to work with one of their long time design and packaging clients, Harvest Snaps. The two day shoot included a shot list of six flavors with styled individual and group shots for their Snapea Crisps and Lentil Snaps. The goal with the styling was to really promote their story of flavor, natural and simple ingredients. We had a great two days on set with the Catapult and Harvest team and are looking forward to future projects with this fun group and brand.
